Rules

All participants in the Paavo Nurmi Marathon event agree to abide by these rules. The responsible organizer of the Paavo Nurmi Marathon is the Athletics Division of the Turun Urheiluliitto. The Juoksuaika event office serves participants on weekdays from 8:00 to 16:00 by phone at 044-5678256 or by email at info(@)paavonurmisports.fi. Please read the event’s privacy policy at the bottom of the page.

Cancellation of participation, transfer of participation, transfer security fee and refund of participation fee

The Paavo Nurmi Marathon follows the instructions below regarding participation transfers, cancellations, transfers and refunds.

Cancellation and transfer

Once a person has registered for the event and paid the participation fee, the registration is final.
If a participant has to cancel their registration and has not purchased transfer insurance when registering, the participant does not need to separately notify the organizer.

You can transfer your participation to the next year with a 10 € transfer insurance policy, which can be purchased separately when registering (included in the participation fee for those who register by September 30, 2024).

Transfer security fee

If you have paid the 10 euro transfer insurance fee when registering, you are entitled to transfer your participation to the following year. Participation can be transferred if you have to cancel your participation due to injury or illness.
Send a transfer notification by email to info@paavonurmisports.fi, and write “Osanotonsiirto” in the subject line of the message. Send us a copy of your doctor’s / nurse’s certificate by email to info@paavonurmisports.fi or by post to Event Consulting Turku Oy, Jousitie 7 20760 Piispanristi.
The transfer can only be made for yourself and only to the next year’s event. Transferred participation cannot be transferred again the following year.
If you have registered by 30.9.2024, the cancellation insurance fee is included in the participation fee. After this, the price is 10 €.
Transfer insurance cannot be purchased afterwards.

Refund of participation fee


Registration is final once payment has been made. Registration is personal and cannot be transferred to another person without the organizer’s permission. see the following section.
The organizer of the Paavo Nurmi Marathon will not refund the participation fee under any circumstances.

Transfer to another person or another distance

You can transfer your personal registration to another person through your own registration profile.

You can change the distance from a longer to a shorter one in your profile from 1.2.2025 until 10.8. After this, the organizer has the right to charge a 10 € fee for the distance change. When changing the distance to a longer one, the difference between the original registration time and the time of the distance change will be charged. Report the change to a longer distance by email to info@paavonurmisports.fi.
When changing to a shorter distance, the organizer will not refund the possible price difference

Running number 

The bib number must be attached to the upper part of the front of the shirt in a way that is easily readable. The number must not be folded or covered. The participant does not have the right to cover or remove the advertisements placed by the organizer. The bib number may be kept after the race. The participant’s number is personal and another person cannot run with it. If personal information has not been changed at the event office before the start, participation will be rejected. You will not be able to finish without a number. Runners without a number will also be removed from the route. Please note that the timing chip is on the bib tag! Behind the number is the organizer’s EA phone number, office number and general emergency number.

Series

The race series in running is determined by age on December 31 of the current year. If the date of birth is not stated, the series is the men’s or women’s overall race. In the half marathon and marathon, the series are the men’s overall race, men by age group (40-45-50-55-60-65-70+), women’s overall race and women by age group (40-45-50-55-60+). 

There are series for men and women in the 10 k and 5 k distances, but no age group series. The overall race is calculated based on the finishing order. 

Note! Confirm your series before the race! Series changes made after the race will not be taken into account in the results list or prize positions.

Duration of the competition

The official completion time for the marathon is six hours, for the half marathon 3:30, and for the 10 k two hours.

Withdrawal

If you drop out the race, report to the nearest service point/first aid point. Inform the service point person if you need a ride to the event area.

Sisqualifying

The event jury has the right to disqualify performance and remove a participant from the route if they do not follow the rules and instructions given. A performance is automatically disqualified if the participant does not have a competition number or if it is not their own.

Insurances 

Participants are not insured by the organizer. Each runner participates in the event at their own risk.

Age limits 

There is no minimum age limit for the Paavo Nurmi Marathon. Participation by persons under the age of 18 requires parental/guardian permission.

Videography and photography

Finishers will be videotaped. A clearly visible number is required for identification. The organizer has free access to the photos and video recordings taken during the event.

Results 

Paavo Nurmi Marathon uses microchip timing, the chip is in the race number. Both gross and net times are recorded for each participant. Net time is the participant’s time from crossing the starting line to the finish line. The official results list will be published in Net times. The overall competition prizes will be determined according to the order of finish (gross time). The results will be published at www.paavonurmimarathon.fi.

Awards and prize distribution

The top five in the overall race and the top three in the age group races will be awarded. The top five in the overall race will also be awarded in the 10 k and 5 k races. The overall competition prizes will be determined according to the order of finish. Age group race prizes can be collected from the “awards” point in the finish area.

Use of address information

Participants’ address information may be used for direct marketing unless the participant specifically prohibits it. Please read the event’s privacy policy at the bottom of the page.

Timing 

When you confirm your participation, you will receive an envelope with your bib number. A timing chip is attached to the back of the number.

In addition to these rules, participants are required to follow other instructions provided by the organizers.

Management team and jury

The jury of the Paavo Nurmi Marathon consists of the competition director, executive producer and chair of the organizing committee.

Complaints

Complaints must be submitted in writing to the competition office no later than one hour after the end of the competition for consideration by the management team. All forms of advertising, distribution of advertisements and sales activities are prohibited in the event area and on the running route without the permission of the event organizer.
